In 2013, the Ministry of State Secretariat, as the Supervising Agency for the Government Translator Functional Position from 2006 to 2015, facilitated the convening of the National Conference (Munas) of the Government Translator Functional Position. At the conference held on October 10, 2013, in Jakarta, the Government Translator Functional Officials agreed to establish a professional organization for the Government Translator Functional Position, namely the Indonesian Government Translators Association (IPPI). In addition, the Articles of Association, Bylaws, Logo, and the IPPI Executive Board were also approved, with Mr. Muhardi (Ministry of State Secretariat) appointed as Chairperson of IPPI and Mr. Yohanes (Supreme Court) as Secretary-General of IPPI.
This professional organization was formed with the aim, among others, of serving as a partner to the Supervising Agency for the Government Translator Functional Position in developing careers and enhancing the competencies of Government Translator Functional Officials.
In 2014, the Ministry of State Secretariat facilitated the Second National Conference (Munas) of the Government Translator Functional Position. At the Second National Conference on November 27, 2014, the Government Translator Functional Officials agreed upon the IPPI Code of Ethics. With the adoption of the IPPI Code of Ethics, members are expected to carry out translation activities, as well as conduct themselves in their daily interactions within their respective institutions, in accordance with the prescribed guidance on attitudes, behavior, and actions.
On November 22, 2018, the Cabinet Secretariat organized a Technical Guidance on Career Development for Government Translator Functional Officials. On this occasion, participants utilized the session on professional organizations of the functional position to elect a new IPPI Executive Board. The Government Translator Functional Officials successfully elected the new IPPI Executive Board for the 2018–2020 term, with Mr. Yanos Okterano (Ministry of Law and Human Rights) as Chairperson of IPPI and Mr. Novri Helmawan (House of Representatives) as Secretary-General of IPPI.
